The format, content, and environment for Deva Daaru School of Yoga & Integral Studies 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training is beyond unique. You may hear that from other schools and trainers, so here are some of the "how's and whys" of what makes this program stand apart and beyond --
#1: The retreat center where this immersion training takes place was built specifically for you and this purpose.
It was designed with the principles of "vastu" (yogic feng shui) as a basis for construction and lifestyle. Here, we are living in alignment with yoga and the natural world as we learn and embody the teachings. Deva Daaru YogaFarm was built to provide the space for students to get away from the busyness of life and to "live your yoga".
#2: This program exceeds the contact hours required by Yoga Alliance -- spread thoughtfully over the course the immersion training.
Why do we offer more than what is required by Yoga Alliance for a standard 200 hour training? Because yoga teachers are being pumped out of programs like they are widgets, hustled out into the yoga "industry" lacking the tools, understanding, and confidence they need to be successful, competent, and positioned to fully embody the gift and experience of teaching yoga to others. The training not only has more hours than a standard training, but it also has considerably more support, given that the training provides students with the opportunity to "live their yoga" for three immersive weeks, and Britt is available for one-on-one meetings and inquiries between immersions.
#3: The format is designed around embodying the teachings, and then, teaching the teachings. Most teacher trainings focus on "teaching" first, without embodying the knowledge -- the risk is that you find yourself in the mass of other "YTT graduates" not feeling ready, and looking for somewhere else to invest in the training you wished you would have gotten in your YTT. Instead, in this training we focus on embodying the teachings first, gradually sharing what you KNOW to be true in your heart second, and THEN the "teaching part" comes out of an abundance of deeply seeded knowledge and personal experience
Yes, there are things we need to know that come through our Yoga Teacher Training Manual. But the real nectar that comes from Yoga is transmitted through your own practice and sharing of that practice in ways that are relevant to you and your life. The format of our time together allows you to take the teachings home so that they can be woven into your everyday life.
#4: The community with whom you study quickly feels like family--in the best possible ways. This training is set at Britt and her husband's home, which will become your home during your weekend immersions. You will journey with 13 other students, and get to know one another in a way that grows to be like family (or even better). The environment, the teachings, and your teacher create an environment that is supportive, honest, deep and transformative. With a max of 14 student teachers in training, we come together to learn, grow, practice, live, prepare meals, and explore three focused, immersive weeks plus online course curriculum.
#5: Everything around you, in you and that moves through you at Deva Daaru, is part of the teachings. Deva Daaru YogaFarm is not an ashram, however Britt's time in India is palpable, as you rise with the sun to a yogi carrying a chime past you cabin, drink chai in the farmhouse kitchen, observe reverent silence from 9 pm and to 9 am, and share organic, vegetarian, ayurvedic meals around one large farm table. We chant traditional meal blessings, and share in the daily "household" activities, including the washing of the "one bowl" from which you eat every meal, and saging the space as part of your karma yoga practice. The food, lifestyle, and approach to these teachings are all designed so you can go home and try them on for yourself, in your own world, in small ways, until your whole being knows yoga.
#6: We live in FLOW. We GO with the FLOW. Our "schedule" of training is a template consisting of criteria we fulfill for Yoga Alliance accreditation while keeping true the realities of waxing and waning attention, energy, desires and need at heart. When we have extra time (given we have built this in), we use it fulfill requests for more depth in a given area, or to learn from what life presents through "off-the-mat teachings". We use our lives as virtual yoga mats, revealing to us where we are stuck, disconnected, or ready for more. It is life, and nature itself, through the seasons, illness, injury, and all the "real world" stuff that poses as our greatest teachers, and Britt will gracefully help you navigate a deeper understanding and application of yogic principles in all you face.
Although I have 20+ years of eclectic, well-rounded experiences that includes being fully immersed in academia, the real world, clinical research, fitness, ayurveda and yoga, I am just the vessel that brings you the teachings. I am devout student of the ancient teachings, and I do my darnedest keep both feet, right here, right now, for this is where we practice our yoga and live our lives -- right here, right now.
Note: If you haven't taken a class with me, please do so before you decide to embark upon this journey, as there is nothing more important than you choosing a teacher with whom you share a deep heart connection -- and the truth is that can't be written in a resume or outlined in a teacher training manual.
* learn in an intimate, honest, "modern ashram" style setting
* get away from the busyness of life and immerse yourself in ancient yoga teachings while gaining the skills to be the best teacher and person you can be
* delve into the power of yoga as both a way of life and as a "mat practice"
* comprehend and communicate anatomy from an anatomical, real life, and energetic point of view
* explore ancient yogic teachings from the Vedas to the Yoga Sutras
* embody the powerful foundation of teaching, so you share this age-old methodology from your heart with ease, clarity, and competence
* explore your unique path to yoga and how you can most effectively share this as a yoga teacher in your life
* look to both eastern and western perspectives as guides and sources for teaching accessible, meaningful yoga classes
* see and experience both the depth of Yoga and the profound simplicity that these ancient teachings offer
This is an incredibly unique program, both because it is deeply rooted in the traditional teachings — which allow you to LIVE your yoga every single day (which sets you up to live and teach from a place of joy, integrity, and clarity), and it is also immersive, walking you over the course of nearly five months into the depths of yoga, ayurveda, and the practical challenges of learning to teach, getting the support you need each step of the way, gracefully guiding you into your teaching.
Each day you wake up and you either move through life consciously -- paying attention to the details, or unconsciously -- going through the motions. It isn’t what happens in your life that makes the greatest impact -- it’s the perspective through which you see your life and what you do with what you see.
