Join Britt B Steele and Stacey Mattraw, artist, for an incredibly unique, one-time women’s retreat marrying yoga, art & culture in the countryside of Southern Italy.
Hosted at a beautiful ashram, La Rosa dei 4 Venti, in heel of the Italian "boot", together, we will share one week in community with other women, exploring the rich undercurrents of spirituality, vitality, and the divine feminine as ever-present aspects of the history and the fabric of Italy.
During our eight days together, we will immerse ourselves in “living yoga” through daily yoga practices, shared teachings and conversations, and self-study.
Adjunct to the ashram experience and all yoga has to offer, you will embody your experience more completely through two richly personal art projects (no experience necessary). Through art, you will weave your inner wisdom, deepest desires, and all you are learning into a multi-dimensional personal journal piece and a “hanging altar” wall piece — both of which you will be able to take home with you to remind you of your intentions and how you came together in the hills of Southern Italy to awaken the divine that lives with, and allow yourself to be guided, everyday, by the voice that lives deep within your own heart and knows what is best and what is in your highest expression.
Yoga will be led by Yoga Teacher and spiritual activist, Britt B Steele, and art will gently guided by artist and long-time part-time resident of Italy, Stacey Mattraw.
The centuries old La Rosa dei 4 Venti is a spiritual center designed to provide groups with an optimal living environment for purpose, fully embodied living, and walking each day in alignment with one’s highest intentions.

Yoga practices will be led by Britt B Steele, teacher and "love preacher". Each morning we will rise to practice, followed by breakfast and a "satsang", community-style teaching, weaving our yoga, art, sisterhood, and the blessings of Italy together in a colorful tapestry of light.
Together, we will immerse ourselves in “living yoga” through daily yoga practices, shared teachings, conversations and self study -- all supported beautifully by the ashram, the food, the people and the land itself.
Adjunct to the ashram experience and all yoga has to offer, you will embody your experience more completely through two richly personal art projects, intended to nurture and bring forth the divine feminine creative within us all, gently guided by artist and long time part time resident of Italy, Stacey Mattraw,
The personal project you will create is a multi-dimensional covered altered moleskin journal, using antique Italian papers, photos, postcards and vintage mini shrine elements. Using writing exercises and prompts, you will have time and space to delve into journaling your deepest longings and accessing your pure and potent truths throughout the week.
You will leave, taking your inspired art piece home to remind you of your intentions and how you came together in this sacred land of ancient Italy, to awaken the divine that lives within your own heart and to manifest your highest expression.

We will embark on a day long excursion to the nearby Southern baroque town of Lecce, often called the “Florence of the South.” We will explore this sophisticated southern Italian town, partaking of the art, the cuisine, the culture and of course, fabulous Italian shopping. We will experience amazing, sumptuous culinary treats and delights and have a glimpse into how southern Italians live in this exquisite town. This excursion is designed to awaken the natural eroticism of our senses and manifest our personal expression of the divine feminine.
"Puglia, the region located in the heel of Italy’s boot, is one of the most exquisite places on earth I have ever been. I have lived for the last 15 years between Portland Oregon, and Tuscany Italy, never venturing much further south than Rome. I had heard much about the sun-drenched magical land of Puglia for years and was intrigued to experience it for myself. I was led to google ‘yoga retreat Puglia” and came upon the retreat/ashram of La Rosa dei 4 Venti. Upon exploring their website, I knew I had to attend a yoga retreat here. I made plans to go a few months later and also arranged to explore the region of Puglia for an additional 3 weeks.
I thought I knew so much about Italy, and when I reached Puglia , I discovered a different world. The language was the same but not much else. The landscape was soft, yielding, and enveloping with warm sultry air, people that were beyond welcoming and inviting. The food and the flavors were rustic and elemental.
I fell hard and fast in love with this region of Italy. My month long adventure culminated in a phenomenal yoga retreat at La Rosa 4 Venti.
Giulia, the owner, a world acclaimed healer, along with her sons run the ashram, Marco and Piergiorgio are incredible and what they have created is an aesthetically beautiful, well curated, other worldly place for people to take retreat.. The vegetarian meals are some of most amazing food I've had in Italy.
I knew then that I must create and facilitate a week of art and yoga one day, with my long time yoga teacher, mentor and friend, Britt. And now it is happening!
Britt and I will hold a special social gathering in my enchanting art studio in North Portland in December 2017 for all local participants who will be joining us on our Italy retreat. We will connect, talk about the trip, preview the art projects you will be making, and begin the seed-planting stage of our journals and mixed media altars. Together, we will select some basic themes, choosing from my inventory of antique Italian papers and painting foundation colors on our boxes. Taking your projects home, the creative process will marinate and inspire the ideas for your art project in the coming months before our retreat. You will then bring your journals and pieces with you to Puglia in April. We look very forward to meeting you all! (and if you are not local, no worries, we'll make sure you have everything you need to seamlessly join us at the retreat.)
Each day you wake up and you either move through life consciously -- paying attention to the details, or unconsciously -- going through the motions. It isn’t what happens in your life that makes the greatest impact -- it’s the perspective through which you see your life and what you do with what you see.
