Through It All

Let's jump right in.  There are days when we simply forget who we are.  I do it too.  We forget that our bodies are a limited, teensy tiny manifestation of who we ARE.  We forget that we are SO MUCH MORE than what we spend hours and hours achieving. We forget that we are more powerful, more compassionate, more loving, and more transcendent than our wildest imaginings.

We forget.

And there is a steep learning curve to this.  There is a the "knowing" we access in our little heads, and there is the KNOWING (hear the rumble?) that reveals itself when we are speaking a universal truth deeper than the deepest ocean, stronger than the most ferocious army, more gentle than the most loving mama.  THAT truth is WHO YOU ARE.

Wanna see it?  See that truth?  Here it is, as a public service announcement offered up in the UK,  rippling out across the entire ocean of women.   I must warn you... its a biggy.  And I must also confess... I like it more each time I watch it.

You are THIS Girl.  And you are SO. SO. SO. MUCH. MORE.

I'm gonna say it again:

You are THIS Girl.

And you are SO. SO. SO.

Beneath the "get fit", "even if you're not skinny or pretty to the masses" message is a deep and undeniable radiance of the Spirit.  THIS is the power of women.  Women, this is YOUR power.  Not just because you can beat the wahoozie out of a punching bag, but because you have an innate, wild endurance that transcends time and space, and our hearts and eyes and bodies are windows into this gnarly truth.  And it IS that deep endurance that is needed in our homes, our businesses, our communities, our hearts.

Mary Oliver says it best:

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees

For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves.

Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

are moving across the landscapes,

over the prairies and the deep trees,

the mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.

You know what I want?

At the end of the day -- at the end of our days -- I want to have tapped into the wild animal of our selves and to feel the holy breath of the divine pulsing through. More than anything, I want this.

And I want it for you too.  It is who you are.

Onward Devi.  Onward.
